Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - A new home for the Desperados Steel Orchestra could mean additional foreign exchange and a chance for cultural diversification.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell urged the band to make full use of the facility at the official sod-turning ceremony yesterday at the corner of Nelson and George Streets, Port-of-Spain.

....The new home for Desperadoes will cost taxpayers $14 million and the Prime Minister urged the group to make sure the investment was a worthwhile one.

....Mitchell meanwhile hailed the new home of the Desperados Steel Orchestra, saying that it would generate additional opportunities to “showcase Trinidad and Tobago’s rich culture while generating foreign exchange when tourists visit the capital city.”

“It gives tourists, visitors and our locals a chance to immerse themselves deep into the history of the steelpan, witness its creations and lose themselves in the melody,” Mitchell said.

  • for me despers is laventille. and nowhere else !!!

  • Now  I does LIME on THE GUARDIAN BLOG everyday discussing TRINIDAD POLITICS. And as you know it is ALL ABOUT RACE and DEPENDENCY SYNDROME and GIMME GIMME -- AND CRIME. So along the years I have established an adversarial position with a HARD CORE PNM SUPPORTER named ELLIS CLARKE.

So when this article was published many hours ago, the very last thing that I expected from ELLIS CLARKE was for him to say ANYTHING NEGATIVE about this GROUND BREAKING. Well imagine MY SHOCK when ELLIS CLARKE -- of all people -- penned the opinion below. Ah tell yuh: The longer you live THE MORE YOU SEE. On the other hand, I always suspected that beside ALL THE OLE TALK -- Ellis Clarke had some INTEGRITY and OBJECTIVITY buried deep down in his PNM SOUL.

But ah eh go lie: The man real surprise me with this POSTING. And me eh like BEVERLEY RAMSEY-MOORE, eh. I doh just MAKE UP STUFF -- when I say something, I could STAND MY GROUND.

"People are complaining that they have not gotten their pandemic assistance, Retirees are complaining that their pension but what have money to waste on a pan yard that this steel ban should have had the money to foot the bill themselves with all the panoramas they've won."

    Boy yuh never know, eh!!!

    • Propaganda!

"People are complaining that they have not gotten their pandemic assistance, Retirees are complaining that their pension but what have money to waste on a pan yard that this steel ban should have had the money to foot the bill themselves with all the panoramas they've won."

The number of people who never went to collect their relief cheques, resulting in those cheques being returned to the treasury is outrageous. The time, money and effort that the public service spent processing those applications has gone down the drain.

I salute the government of Dr. Keith Rowley for the confidence that they have shown in Desperadoes, and by extension the entire steelband movement.

Yes Desperadoes is Laventille, Desperadoes is Port of Spain, Desperadoes is Trinidad and Tobago.

Any investment in Desperadoes is an investment in pan, and an investment in Trinidad and Tobago.
