  • Well done guys . It's nice to see us recognized in New York.

Our accomplishments need to be recognized , even by us.

An unrelated story that says a lot about us.

We all know Ralston Charles , Charlies Records and his contributions to our culture.

Several years ago , I was in Brooklyn at one of Charlies annual Labor day freebies ,held in front of his record store  with calypsonians and music.

There was a sizable crowd there , mostly Caribbean people , and a Congresswoman presented an award.

Turns out that Tina Charles , captain , center and MVP of the Gold medal winning US Olympic Basketball team was Mr; Charles daughter.

I was very impressed . but there was barely a response from the crowd.

I may have been wrong , but my immediate reaction was , I bet the response would have been different , had she been Jamaican , at a Jamaican festival.

I know , dear friends , that may s a bit shallow , but what the heck I'm human!

  • Really PROUD to see BSO recognized for their EXCELLENT performance in Trinidad & Tobago.  Recognition by City Councilman Jumaane Williams is to be appauled!  Attention to the tireless work and effort of our young people in this cultural arena deserves its KUDOS.  More importantly, to all those who made it happen. Keep up the good work everyone!  Lets work together for the SUCCESS of all in the steel band movement and our future generations.  Hazel John, Community Advocate.

  • Way to go BSO! Congratulations on a job well done. Ah Feeling ah feeling!
