TAIWO OLADOKUN writes on the synergy between Nigeria and Trinidad aimed at earning millions from carnivals.
The synergy started with the participation of Trinidad and Tobago in the 2011 Abuja Carnival and the presentation of a steel band, a symbol of that country’s popular annual carnival to the government of Nigeria. What followed was a stronger cultural relationship culminating in an invitation to the Nigerian government to participate in the 2012 Trinidad and Tobago International Carnival in Port of Spain.
For the Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Edem Duke, the invitation must go beyond witnessing the carnival. The Nigerian delegation to Trinidad and Tobago must learn the techniques and strategies that have made the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival a billion dollar venture. It was with this agenda that the Minister led a nine-man Nigerian delegation to Trinidad and Tobago.
