The consensus on this forum is that BOOGSIE SHARPE is going to win this Panorama -- HANDS DOWN!!! I was big on DESPERS when I heard the slow version of their song but when I listened to the SEMI-FINALS they were BEATING THE PANS TOO HARD FOR ME.

So I am looking for a SECOND PLACE FINISHER. I am not sold on AMRIT. Under the circumstances, I have to put ALL STARS in second. Looks like two weeks from now we will be discussing how the SAME TWO BANDS divide the PANORAMA SPOILS every year -- despite all the excitement and forum chatter (and the bandied openness) in the build up to  the competition.

  • The only time the judges will ever get it 'right' is when they choose what I choose. EOS
  • Let the record show also that Desperadoes is great this year.  Refreshing music.  But I agree.  I don't think we will be cussing the judges.

  • I agree.  Phase II is the best this year.  Maybe I am wrong, but for sound purposes I believe All Stars( nuff respect, always) should return to the format of setting up their front-line pans facing west.  I get a sense of loss of the old "Catelli ring" with the frontline facing the judges, especially with the mikes stuck into the face of the pans.  This is only a suggestion since I am only a fan(pan jumbie?), not an audio expert.

  • WITCO Desperadoes plays a cool down version after being judged for Panorama Preliminaries 2016. They played 'Different Me", a Jovan James composition, sung by 5Star Akil. The arranger for this piece is Carlton "Zanda" Alexander.

  • HANDS DOWN? Wha chubble is dis!!!

In a democracy, the majority wins. And acceptably so!
But the inherent difficulty with that premise is that the majority may not be right.
Now, 'consensus' –– the majority in agreement. Similarly, the majority in agreement may not be correct.

I asked several Renegades' supporters if they think Phase II, under the baton of the omniscient Mr. Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe, will win 2016 Panorama. And they all agreed that Phase II will not.
I asked the same of some of SuperNovas' supporters and they emphatically stated, that they will do one place better in the Finals than the second place that they received in the semis.
I also checked some All Stars' fans and was surprised that I even got a response, as aside from being very knowledgeable music wise, they are usually reticent allowing their band to do their talking for them. Anyway, this cute young lady, speaking for the majority in her group opined that the only way Phase II would likely stand a chance is if Mr. Sharpe chose "Curry Tabanca" as his tune of choice. And she smilingly reassured me that he did not.

When I returned home I was no wiser as to who will win Panorama 2016. But from the consensus of the people I consulted, I know who will not –– HANDS DOWN!

By the way, regardless of who wins Panorama 2016, it appears the consensus is, "The judges need a good cussing up".
  • All commenters could say what they want about Desperadoes, it is known all over the world that Desperadoes is the best Steel Orchestra. They and Trinidad All Stars are the most versatile in playing different genres of music and they has won every different steel-band competition. They also have the most panorama wins and is the only one to win with three highly esteem Arrangers (Beverly Griffith, Clive Bradley and Robbie Greenidge).

They are playing beautiful arrangement this year, just as many other years past. I expect them to do well and even win this year. It is nice to see Supernovas and Invaders in the running as well.

  • I    AM HOPING THAT THE JUDGES  DO THE RIGHT THING ALL STARS ?

  • Bougsie all the way no competition

  • Garvin Adams: you are back and stiil spewing hate toward Desperadoes. I remember your idiotic comment you posted recently, about Desperadoes temporarily housed at the old church compound. YOU AND BAIN SHOULD TAKE THE COBWEB OUT OF YOUR EARS AND LISTEN TO DESPERADOES.
