Why are we complaining about the Judging for Panorama! I have been told by associates of Pantrinbago, that many Steel Orchestras do not attend the meetings that are scheduled by Pantrinbago. We blame Patrick Arnold and Pantrinbago for everything, when things do not go in favour of our respective bands. Pantribago is not larger that the Steel Orchestras. The bands have as much weight as its Governing body. We, the Steel Orchestras' leaders' (well, not me) must be involved in any proposals or changes that Pantrinbago wants to persue. I hope that the judging pool for Panorama 2010, will be a collaboration between Pantrinbago and the Steel Orchestras. My personal hope is that Panorama will be changed back to a three-week span, rather than the usual four weeks. The attendance for the semi finals will greatly increase, if the date is changed to the Sunday before the finals. Everyone will be happier; because many of us who reside abroad would have been already in T&T if the Semi's were a week later. Also, the Steel Orchestras that do not qualify for the finals will only have a five-day grief period, rather than the usual12-days, in an empty panyard.

Having the semis on the Sunday before the finals has been tried before and it failed as the support by the public was lacking.
What we have to understand is that in the short Carnival season people make plans as to what events they would be
attending so that two Sundays before Carnival is set aside for panorama and Carnival Saturday for the finals.Any other day
it is very difficult to get proper attendance as is seen with the small and medium bands finals on the Wednesday before
Carnival. There was a best of the rest competition some years ago but that suffered the same fate as stated above.Until such
time as we get the public of T&T to really support the instrument we will have to go with what has proven to be successful to
date.

Hello Mr. McQuilkin,
Thanks for the education. You have the figures to proove your point, so you must continue with the best financial outcome. I work for Target in logistics, and I often wondered why they did things in a certain way. I saw things that could have been done in different ways that would have been more productive and cost effective. Since I am merely a humble "peon", I had to accept the S.O.P. from Head Quarters. However, since the downturn in the economy, Target has now streamlined their Standard Operation Procedures.
Should I say that 75% of the changes that are now in placed are the same things that I alluded to earlier.
I know that this has nothing to do with panorama, It is merely food for thought.
Sincerely,
Ian Franklin
Why not have a competition for bands that did not make it to Panorama. It was once called the "best of the rest". If you were here taking part in the practicing perhaps you would be in agreement with that time span. Pan lovers that is the people who are interesred to listen to pan while the real thing is being played gets here to visit panyards and to enjoy all the Panorama pan yard judging semi final and finals.
The peolpe who come to gallery and jump up for Panorams. that is a different storey all together Tourists ccome to go to fetes on the finaaal night they are not particularly unterested in Panorama, How about the people who care that mich about organozing their holidays to their needs of Panorama. Think about the players who gear up night after night some as young as eleven years old learning new parts for tunes and the parents and grand parents who have to labour with them in this dangerous time. We all want something for ourselves but some times it is good to look futher than our own needs
Sarah-Ann, I am on your side. The best of the rest is a competition that can be reinstituted, but I do not know if Pantrinbago will want to fit that expence. You could suggest it to them. In the mean time there aren't any outlet for 99% of players in bands that do not make the finals. My suggestions were not subjective, although it is my wish that the semi final be a week later. My needs are your needs also. Which is fair, an 11 year old boy or girl being disappointed for 5 days, or 12 days!
Dear Jojo,
I am happy to know someone else have the same sentiments, in regards to the elapse time from semi to final. I am a pan lover, maybe we can exchange stories. my e mail is laventl@aol.com.
Thanks again,
Ian Franklin
