no semi-finals CD this year? and where are the small bands?

trying to get a CD of the semi-finals but it appears one was not produced this year.   BUMMER cause i need a 2nd listen of that day. the track was chaos, mayhem, and a complete cluster-f*** this year so i didn't get to hear many of the bands. not to mention the way they narrowed the whole track there was no room to chip along, never mind barely even enuf room for the bands themselves to pass.  (ok ok i know i digress, but it was one giant hot mess and ppl were PISSED.)

 

anyway - does anyone know why no "official" semi's CD?  and/or where I can possibly get my hands on one in some way?  preferably including the small bands? 

 

thanks for any info anyone can provide, i think it's lame that the only recordings available this year seem to be finals only, wiith just half the bands.

You won't get a semis CD ....and a Small Band or Single Pan CD???...you must be mad...lol...that competition is not important to most pan people and sadly not even Pantrinbago...but you know what?...the Small Band final saw the keenest of all the four competitions, with three points seperating the first four bands....270, 268.5, 268 and 267...you won't get it closer than that anyday...again pan people missed out on some serious music...what to say?....maybe next year they will get it right...

Basement Recordings would be very interested in exploring the possibility of us bring the team to Trinidad next year to record and produce a DVD/CD of the small bands. Of course that is assuming that there would be no conflict with agreements already in place.

yep merrytones i know, l was there.... my favorite small band for this year didn't even make the top 3 and i am DYIN to hear their tune again - Laventille Serenaders, with This Melody Sweet.... man they were sweet for REAL - they had the track JAMMIN (what little of it we could get near, anyway)

and yeh i know i must be mad, but a gal can hope, right?

i've had semi CD's for the past 6 years running, only one was the 'official'; one that i bought myself in trini in 2005 - but i always thought all the others that ppl gave to me were copies of the 'official' one, and that they made one every year of the semi's. dang, i guess they must have been bootlegs. really didn't know that - and if they did one in 2005 WHY did they not continue with that? all this massive disorganization is really starting to grate my nerves.

helllOOOOOOO ..... i WAS there.... for a month, prior to semi's and after finals. just got back 3 days ago. we spent our time before semi's, and the 2 weeks between semi's & finals, in the panyards on both islands; & was on the drag AND in the stands for both Trini panorama events, and also the independent Tobago Panorama - as a listener, not playing in a band.

and just for general info purposes i do not knowingly buy bootlegs or support ppl who make them.

my band members here in the USA gave me personal copies made just for our own use; i assumed they were copied from official original CD's - which yes, was my bad -

make me check on that noah, i have only one CD - i.e. half the competition - from 2009, i didn't care much about it cause i thought last year's music wasn't that great. not sure which bands are on there,i'll go find it and wil let u know.

Sorry to hear that Merrytones. But don't the small bands have a say in what is going on? Why don't the small bands get together and get their own thing going?

You've asked me a very tough question there Bugs boy...I put it down to a lack of unity among steelbands in general in T&T and by that I mean all steel bands...the only interest the average steelband has in any other steelband is making sure they beat them in Panorama...quite a few 'pan lovers' don't see the point of having a Small or Single Pan competition in the first place. So, it seems that we are at the mercy of Pan Tinbago until they wake up and realise that without us they almost have no Panorama. Preety soon large bands will fade into history and be just a memory...mark my words...at $4,000.00 per tenor pan (2009 price) it will soon become improbable to field these giants and eventually all that may exist is?....you tell me...lol
