To my knowledge their should be no amplified music on the road each year I see more and more guys coming out with sound systems on the road and nothing is being done. This year I saw three different dj's on the road sooner or later they will start setting up trucks and coming out because nothing is being done to stop now when they are still growing.

The steelband authorities in New York has to be strict in enforcing the pan only rule if not they will end up with a problem. You could bet that DJ coming back next year and the rhythm section with the 4 pieces ah brass, they will add two more and a guitar, this is how humans operate.
I have no problem with "LIVE" music at j'ouvert. Bahamas junkanoo is mostly brass with more than 100 musicians playing all kinds of brass, percussion and cowbells, is outstanding. The live brass bands at j'ouvert in St. Thomas are amazing!
I do have a problem with DJs and the recorded music at any j'ouvert.
I believe that DJ group some how snuck onto the Jouver't route without permission that is why they did not have any escort... but then where was the security enforcement to stop them and escort them off the route??
Bottom line? It is cheaper to hire a D J then to hire a Steel Band for Jouvert, point blank. After pan a rama a lot of steel bnds give up there practice sites to cut there lost's. New York Steelbands need to organize and secure sponsors that will cover all of there expences. Only then will you see more Steel bands on the road. As some one mentioned, variety is the spice of life and that includes music. Let's face it, not everyone cares for pan music, many Americans see the craft as a joke(idiots) because they don't see the big picture and that's real talk. I believe there is room for everyone who want's to participate in Jouvert including the big trucks. Lets not discriminate. All are welcome. We have to keep it Steel Band or Rhythm. Keep the trucks on the Parkway.

We had a small brass section at the Boston J'ouvert and it was great. So was the brass in NY j'ouvert!
Having a Brass section sounds great but one one full basket, next thing we will have a full Brass Band, Brass Bands and other things and Steelbands get knocked off the Road, We have to protect the Steelbands, allyuh need to thing about that.
I didnt have a problem with the brass as it was with a rhythm section and was only about 3 of them but i have a problem with the djs and nothing being done about it and more and more djs are coming out now
Cecil: A rhythm section with 4pcs. of brass sound like some NICE MUSIC to me. A parade has to have variety!!!
