Observations about Panorama 2011
by Jeannine Remy

Trinidad & Tobago - ....The south stands were full of people who waited in anticipation for the large bands and all of their splendour. Never before have I attended a panorama final with so much confetti, glimmering decorations, balloons, fireworks and sound effects.

....I was fortunate enough to have a seat to the right of the judges behind the radio announcers, as this was one of the “benefits” to having adjudicated the single pan competition. Since Channels 4 & 16 did not get the contract to broadcast, Orville Wright and I had our own little private music commentary together since our seats were side by side.

  • Hello Ms. Remy

Did you know your observations about the panorama was reprinted the Trinidad Guardian this week?

  • I would love to hear what you really have to say abt Silver Stars... you only touched on them
    • and deltones. i am very dissappointed you missed deltones, because i would like to hear a musically analytical review of zanda's arrangement
  • Thank you Dr. Remy for your excellent analysis and commentary on the Panorama. It's like a breath of fresh air to read your remarks and observations. Instructive, constructive, relevant, interesting and well written. My sincere thanks for writing your "Observations...."..
    • Thanks for your kinds words.
      • You mentioned that judges should be foreign. For music festival, yes, but I don't think it should be for panorama.  Are you insinuating that Trinidadians are not good and honest judges.  Carnival and panorama belong to us.  Why should we bring foreigners who know nothing about our culture and background to judge something that we created. Foreigners come in, take over and next thing panorama loses the real flavor. We trinis are capable of judging our creation.  leave it alone. If anything Trinis should be going to foreign to judge and teach them how its done. I do agree that the small bands and single bands were treated unfairly.  The venue was better than before but it was not well-thought out.  Why can't they be at the Savanah.  The quality of music deserve being on the big stage.  I hope next year they will treat the small and single bands better and with more respect.
        • Not all foreign, for the same reasons you mentioned above.  Even for festival there is a local judge (like Dr. Osborne).
  • thanks once again Dr. Remy for taking the time and effort to put together your thoughts and share them here.  I always love to read your contributions, they teach me so much about arranging, the ajudication process, and how things come across to a judges ear. I learn more from everything you contribute -

    thanks so much -
