On my mind? Ken "Professor" Philmore
Ode to our friend and brother Ken “Professor” Philmore
Moments with the “Professor”
For the short while
Yes too short!
I had hopes
That we would meet again
In the Savannah
Yes, in the “big yard”
Next year
But no! You left suddenly
Without notice
Nevertheless, music brought us
Together in the panyard
On Foster Road in Grande
In the Cordettes tent
Where for the first time
I saw your energy, your charisma
Your inspiration with the
Youth who followed your
Every move, every nuance
Of your soul; in the dance
Of the steelpan in which
You have your joy, your excitement, your being
Making the music flow through
Every fiber, every muscle, every nerve
Yes sir, unselfishly you gave
Your all with such verve
Your hope was to
Give the children
A winning chance
And when the ram’s horn
Was blown in the practice
The spark ignited
Your energy spread
Like a fire among the players
Because you knew the Great Spirit
Was ever present...so near
In us you shattered the fear
With the fire in your soul
O “Professor” you made us bold!
Transferred the passion to play
A sweet sound...”Yes we can!”
Love and Inspiration on pan!
On the Panorama stage…
Now you have flown...gone
O Lord, taken too soon I guess
To the happy music ground
Where angels await
At the gate
Yes man!
With your pan sticks
And a tenor pan
In your hand
We will not forget!
There’s an unfamiliar
Lump in my throat
Something I dislike
But the tears must flow
For more of your music
I wanted to know.
