Pan in the 21st Century qualifying round

One point separated the first two Conventional Bands in the Pan in the 21st Century qualifying round. TCL Group Skiffle Bunch and Katzenjammers Steel Orchestras (reigning champions) scored 264 and 263 points respectively in a keenly contested competition spread over a six day period in the four zones. The 12 finalists were announced this morning at Pan Trinbago’s Head Office, Park Street, Port of Spain. Finalists in both categories will draw for playing positions at NCC TV, Morvant, on Thursday 9 April at 10: 00 am. They are in order of merit:- 1 TCL Group Skiffle Bunch Georgia On My Mind 264 2. Katzenjammers To Love You More 263 3. Silver Stars Bohemian Rhapsody 260 Our Boys Closer 260 5. Pamberi Can’t Be My Lover 258 NLCB Fonclaire Shame 258 7. Harmonites Love Theme from St. Elmo’s Fire 257 Tropical Angel Harps Conga 257 9. Solo Pan Knights Rise 254 Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille Can We Talk 254 Parry’s Pan School Fantasy 254 12 Curepe Scherzando Theme From Love Story 252 Bands performances are limited to six minutes (a grace period of 30 seconds is allowed) and tunes must be selected from the 21st century world beat repertoire. For this competition, steel orchestras must have a complement of 50 players maximum. Adjudicators in this category were: Louis Nurse, Damion Phillip. Merle Albino-De Coteau and Richard Pierre. Pan in the 21st Century Finals will take place on Wednesday 15th April at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, at 8:00 pm. Tickets cost $100. are available at the advertised outlets. This year’s edition is being staged to coincide with the Fifth Summit of the Americas. The competition is sponsored by the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs and TSTT.
