  • Someone explain this to me, please. I understand what the difference is supposed to be, between Pan in the 21st Century and Pan Down Memory Lane. But for the life of me, I'm not seeing it. Both competitions had multiple bands playing tunes from the 50s, 60's, 70,'s, 80's, etc. Very few of the finalists in last night's 21st Century actually did music after the year 2000, which would be the 21st century, not so? While we love to hear the pan versions of the "old tunes" I fail to see and hear much music that actually fit the stated criteria for 21st Century. So why all the clamor about Silver Stars' selection, when the winners played "Georgia on My Mind" -- not only an older tune, but one that has been done before in the same competition (which is allowed, but not too impressive when heard just a few years ago.) What am I missing??
    • The names of the pan competitions in April is merely semantics. The conventional Steel Orchestras leg is called, "Pan in the 21st Century" and the Traditional Steel Orchestras leg is called, "Pan down memory lane".
As you stated "Georgia on my Mind", is from the late fifthies and it was the winning tune in 2009. The winning tune from 2000 was "Young Love", another 50's tune. Thanks, Ian Franklin
  • Congrats to Skiffle Bunch
    • Don't get me wrong...I completely agree with the top 3 bands on that night. Fantastic! My complaint is that once again Pan Trinbago sets up rules, then ignores them, except in some cases. Hmmm...
