PAN PLAYERS association needed

i think we need a steel PAN PLAYERS association. Pantrinbago can and only do so much for steel BANDS . but what about the thousands of pannist who cant vote in a election , what about the man who sees pan past panorama. can he make a living? why is pan not attractive (and or made attractive)to the younger audience? it seems as if that's the one thing the "older heads" want to hold on to and have been holding onto. i have mad respect for the older heads who brought the thing this far but where do you drop off and let the next generation take it up? we have young people with new ideas and renewed energy to work hard , and we have the experience of the vets, lets come together and do this and make steel pan "the cool thing again.

  • Like this youthful message.  Hope your message is received on a positive side by all.  Best wishes and looking forward to a hopefully bright future for the pan men.

  • The National instrument of Trinidad and Tobago...the Steelpan.....the constituency of Pan people....and the Largest grassroots organization in the Caribbean.......and the World Governing Body of SteelPan ....are mired in a controversy of allegations of unprecedented levels of greed, corruption, self aggrandizement and control for power.....of the Corporate Body....Pan Trinbago Inc.....a private entity incorporated by

Those who live in glass houses ought not to throw stones....as highly elected office holders in this movement,.they ought to know better....but in reality as Winston Churchill once opined, "Power corrupts...and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Plenty plenty more shall be unfolding.....the evidence appears not to be circumstantial...every story have 3 sides...the defendant version, the appellant version and de God-awful truth...

I suppose that NCC Chairman & Accountant are watching; TT Customs & Excise watching, GORTT Ministers of Culture; Finance; and Foriegn Affairsand the Hon. Dr. PM also watching,...TTPS Fraud Squad, British Scotland Yard, and Interpol may also be watching....

.I will leave it right there for now...and continue to pray for and hold on tight to my beloved national instrument......coming from out of this dark time.,.into the light
  • I have come to the conclusion that Trinidadians just love to complain. So much so that if you remove the source of their complaints they would not know what to do.

Which is why nothing gets done.

How many years have we been complaining about Pan Trinbago? What has been done about it?

If we have nothing to complain about then we will have to ask ourselves, what we go do now?

    Anybody have an answer?

    • Agree with you! Many people do not show energy to work with a fight for solutions. We-like-it-so! Who-you-go-put! mentality. From the outside we need to organize meaningfully to support those who have made public the errors in Pan Trinbago, once they show us proof.

    • of course

dont blame me  its his fault

we will have a commission of enquiry- lol

  • Why don't the pan players get together and create a Pan Association?
Pan Trinbago acts as the voice for the pan players but only because they allow it.
The government does not own PT. It is not a state company.
They get money from the government to put on panorama, nothing else.
If the pan players allow them to run roughshod over them, why wouldn't they do it.
All the pan players have to do is convene a meeting, elect an executive, register and begin business as an association.
The association can then approach anyone including the government for financial support.
Pan Trinbago cannot exist without the support of the pan players.
    Just do it.

    • Wayne: The answer is very simple!!! They lack ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS and VISION. In an earlier post which I complimented you for, you hit the nail on the head when you said that two or three people could run the organization. And in this computer age the brick and mortar office with the secretary is obsolete like a phone booth. So a not too bright  17 year-old could sit down with his laptop at Starbucks and run an entire company.

The things two half-way informed people could do for PAN TRINBAGO and the amount of money they can raise under the officialdom of that CULTURAL ORGANIZATION could build a massage drain across Trinidad to stop all the flooding in CENTRAL.

I was planning to re-post your contribution one of these days although there is some old proverb about casting pearls ....

  • Great idea! Pannists should organize NOW to speak directly for themselves. An organization which may include all those who produce Pan and its music, I imagine.

  • In my opinion, one of the main reasons why few Pan Players can earn a living playing this wonderful instrument is, we hold Pan too close to our vests.  Too many Pan Lovers/Players tend to reject the idea that other communities should play Pan, as just another musical instrument.  I believe that Pan should be included in all genre of music, not just as a Soloist or Steel Band, but should be played in Country & Western Music, Hip Hop, Jazz (which it already is), Rock, Classical Orchestras, Reggae, in other words, all genre of music.  It is a musical instrument and must be regarded and treated as such.

Yes!. Continuing the traditional playing of Pan is essential, but by limiting Pan to this particular category, is what I believe has stymied Pan's progress.

US Colleges have Pan Sides, with accredited college degrees of Pan as their musical instrument.  This presents a fantastic opportunity to implement my opinion.

    • Another way for Pan to be properly promoted, is for recording contracts to be signed with major Labels, and promoted as these Labels would promote any other Artist or musical genre, including appearing in major venues worldwide, and having music aired on major media outlets, especially on radio.
