Pan Trinbago Inc. T.C, would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Bro. Keron Valentine, on his elevation to the position of Mayor of the capital city of Port of Spain.

Our pride in his achievement stems from the fact that His Worship the Mayor Councillor Keron Valentine, is a product of the Steelpan fraternity.

Although there is an old saying that "uneasy lies the head that wears the crown", we are confident that the newly appointed Mayor is quite capable, given his years of experience as a leader in the Steelband movement.

We wish him God’s blessings and continued success in all his future endeavours, and he can rest assured of the support of the entire Steelpan fraternity.

  • Congratulations to Mr Valentine, wishing you and the City of P-O-S,the best.

  • Mr.Thomas, if adult female players of a band, who are normally driven home and seen entering and closing their door, inform you on a particular night that they are not going home, but going to lime "on the avenue" with friends or at some pub and the unfortunate happens, are you saying or expecting that the band is responsible or partly responsible for the incident?

I belong to a band where we shuttled home people including under aged children, whose parents agreed that THIS was part of the agreement to play in the group. However when the adults in their twenties and early thirties (both male and female) say "let the shuttle go ahead, we are going out,"are we to be held responsible if one of them is shot dead in St. James or somewhere!? Even if you were to insist that they had to go home, they could be picked up and leave after you drop them.

    • A guest came to my home and was killed in my home. We could parse and debate until the cows come home but this is a stubborn fact: A guest was killed in my home.

  • ONLY SOMEONE, WHO HAS NEVER SUPPORTED A PAN SIDE, NEVER BEAT A PAN, OR NEVER  WAS A MEMBER OR CONSTANT LIMER IN A PAN YARD WITH A PANSIDE, WOULD NEVER  UNDERSTAND HOW "PAN PROTECTS ITS OWN"

.WE NOT I, IS THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE STEELBAND FRATERNITY.

THE PANYARD AND THE SPACE AROUND THE PAN RACKS, FROM THE FLAGMAN TO THE LAST STRAGGLER IS THE BAND, YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME, YOUR "FAMILY".

  • Congratulations to Mr Keron Valentine.

  • Good. But that is one step, only. Exactly what is Pan Trinbago going to do to protect its increasing numbers of females - of all ages and races? Pan Trinbago has a direct role in this tragedy.

    Please spell it out.

    • Bernard please explain how Pan Trinbago has a direct role in this tragedy and please suggest possible solutions to Pan Trinbago, that would prevent such a tragedy happening again,in similar circumstances.

    • Bernard a Thomas.

If Asawi had stayed in the pan, she would be alive today.

      Pan protects its own.

She died in Trinidad- but 'Trinidad' did not kill her.

      • In the South Central lands most of the bands have a policy to protect the females and young players associated with the band. Some even go as far as offering after-school programs to insure the kids do their homework and the necessary studies to make themselves constructive citizens. Couva Joylanders are a good example with the many females they have in the band. Each one teach one and protect one.
Hatters and Fonclaire also have programs to protect the players. You have to remember this murder didn’t take place at a pan tent or during panorama. The young lady was a masquerader in a band and unfortunately strayed away from her friends and unfortunately her trusting nature got the better of her.

      • Are you blaming her for her death? Are you saying that she brought this on herself by playing mas instead of pan,are you serious what the hell is wrong with you people.Do you blame every murder victim in T&T over the past ten years or so for their demise. What are you implying.Pan protects nothing, not the panmen or panwomen. She died in trinidad because one or more of the many sickos walking the streets of T&T ended her life tragically.I don't mean to down you my friend but you got to watch what you say and when you say it.There are people still in grief from port of spain to tokyo at this time.I don't care how many murderers are walking the streets of T&T untouched what bothers me is a police service that seems to have no clue of anything that's going on in T&T.Asawi was a victim of the incompetent system of security that exists in T&T.
