San Juan East Side Symphony and Marsicans took the top spot in what is now being referred to as the historic NLCB National Panorama Single Pan 2020 Finals held at the Grand Stand, Queens Park Savannah, Port of Spain on Saturday afternoon.
Playing Carlan Harewood’s arrangement of “Guitar Pan” and Marlon White’s execution of “Johnny” respectively, the bands from the East held on their semi-final placing to jointly rule the roost. In this round, they amassed a total of 284 points, eleven (11) points higher than their previous score.
After the opening remarks by President Mrs. Beverley Ramsey-Moore and Minister of Community Development, Culture & The Arts, Dr. The Hon. Nyan Gadsby Dolly, and an opening interlude produced by Daviln Thomas, the first of twenty-one (21) finalists performed their tunes of choice. Corrine Soo Ping Chow, Damion Phillip, Jeanette Johnson, Lennox London, Michelle Dowrich and Kenrick J. Noel were charged with responsibility of adjudication.
Selections ranged from compositions by Aldwyn Roberts, Cecil Hume, Johnny King, Winsford Devine , Austin Lyons and Goddard/Batholomew/Dore /Immanshah, Mac Fingal (B’dos), Errol Ballantyne and Edwin Ayoung much to delight of patrons and guests.
Special Award were presented to John Babb, Vincent ”Benji” Benjamin, Junia Regrello and Keith Simpson for their outstanding contribution to the Traditional Pan Round D Neck now called Singe Pan.
Panorama 2020 continues with the Preliminaries for the Small Bands category with judging commencing in the North on Monday December 09 and continuing until Wednesday December 18, 2019 in Tobago.
