Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Pan Trinbago’s President Keith Diaz has accepted invitations to visit London and Brisbane, Australia.

The first invitation issued by the British Association of Steelbands (BAS) from 16th to 28th August 2014 coincides with the Notting Hill Carnival celebrations inclusive of the BAS pre-Carnival Blockorama, Calypso Tent, the UK National Panorama and J’Ouvert Bomb Competition.

This is a significant year in the annals of pan history as 2014 marks the first performance of a steelband, led by Russell Henderson MBE, on the streets of Notting Hill 50 years ago. The occasion will be commemorated with the launch of the event’s three-year 50th anniversary celebrations.

The other is from PANZ, the newly-formed Steelpan Association of Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, Diaz is expected to hold talks including the proposed International Conference on Panorama in Trinidad & Tobago in August 2015, with his counterparts.  While “down under”, the pan body head will meet members of the steelpan community and be guest participant at workshops.

Other points of discussion are plans for the Second National Steelband Festival, PANFest, in Brisbane, from 2nd to 5th October 2015, at which Diaz has been invited to be the Festival Ambassador.

Diaz is expected to be away from 16th August to 14th September, 2014.

During his absence, Mr. Bryon Serrette, Vice- President will act as President.

    • David De,

Not only is he not relinquishing his position, others cannot remove him and it is sad to see this man push around people who has good intentions like this. This speak volumes about the system in the Mecca.
