Destra, Iwer and Blaxx are among the “champs” featured this Saturday (March 12th) as Pan Trinbago stages its annual Champz of Steel +Plus at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, from 8:00pm.

 

The popular soca stars, champions in their own rights, will entertain patrons in what has been described as “a euphoric experience of sight and sound featuring the most exciting, exhilarating, versatile instrument of the 21st century”.

 

Producer Ian Wiltshire promised “there will be the best of Steel, Mas, Soca, Chutney and Calypso from Carnival 2011 in a non-competitive environment.”

 

Headlining the cast are all of Carnival 2011 Steelband Champions ie Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra, Katzenjammers and Valley Harps, Arima Golden Symphony, San Juan East Side Symphony. Junior Panorama winners, St. Francois Girls’ and Success Stars Steel Orchestras, are also listed to appear.

 

Making the playbill are some of the season’s hottest champs and contenders.

 

Kelly Greene & Harmony will serve as back up band while Tamara Williams will host the event.

 

The other components- Mas, Calypso and Chutney –will be featured.  Representation will come from both the  Junior and Senior King and Queen of Carnival, Junior Band of the Year (Large) winner Rosalind Gabriel, Calypso Monarch Karen Ashe’, Junior Calypso monarch Aaron Duncan, Rikki Jai and Extempo’s finest Sheldon John and Lingo.

 

Tickets priced at $200. are on sale at Pan Trinbago’s Head Office and at the Queen’s Park Savannah Ticket Booth on the day of the show.

 

The three hour production is a collaborative effort between blink/bmobile and pan Trinbago which brings down the curtain on Carnival 2011.

 

This year Pan Trinbago celebrates the 75th anniversary of the steelpan as “we know it”.

  • What I would like to know is if Carnival TV will be streaming this show. It's stream of Panorama, Kings & Queens of Carnival, Dimanche Gras etc.. was a fantastic success and I would love to see more events from Trinidad streamed in this manner. Congratulations to all those concerned.
