"The National Musical Instrument of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, conceived through the imagination and innovation of an extraordinary people - the steel pan - forms the core of the illustration, unquestionably highlighting the focal theme of the occasion.

The internal ring denotes the unique musical impressions which emanate from the instrument to intimately connect with those who hear it, while the peripheral band signifies the outstretched arms of the people of Trinidad and Tobago, unified to safeguard and elevate this invaluable cultural treasure.

The chromed tones of the steel pan showcase its natural splendor, the scarlet depiction of the melodic waves are indicative of our national hue, and the lifeblood pigment of the people highlights the impartiality of our coming together.

Much like the distinct notes of a pan we are all unique - every individual; every nation, but through the orchestrated integration of each individual's influence a masterpiece can be discovered!

With this in mind, the Trinidad and Tobago international conference and panorama is being hosted as a pioneering effort for global outreach to internationalize the steel pan industry."

Without further ado i invite the president of the republic, His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona and Mr. Keith Diaz, President of Pan Trinbago to perform the official unveiling of the ICP logo.

  • Methinks it will come off, otherwise the Minister will look like a fool...
    • In order for this to come off, Pantrinbago should let the Overseas Steelbands get to T&T one week before and loan them some Instruments so they can run over their tunes. The cost to transport Pans from overseas to T&T will cost too much. This is where Pan Standardization would have came into play.

  • I would like to go to this International affair, Should I start making preparation now, Will Pan Trinbago pull this off, or will I be just wasting my time thinking that Pan Trinbago will make it happen, (all yo please Advise)

  • Noah, that type of standardization is to be discussed on the conference side... https://whensteeltalks.ning.com/forum/topics/standardize-the-steel-p...
  • But will they have an Official Lexicographer on hand to ensure that only pan sticks are used and not so-called "mallets"? This is crucial. We must ensure that the foreign players don't use unsanctioned verbiage in The Mecca.

  • Like the art concept but should we have left room in the flag ring of honor for recognizing more than 32 countries.

If this conference is successful as is the expectation, then I could see more countries needing to be included.

  • Pan was not invented by ' an extraordinary people' , it is not a folk instrument with a mythical origin 'lost in the mists of time'. It was invented by a number exceptionally gifted, visionary  individuals, some of whom are still alive. Please recognize their contributions.

  • Let's hope and pray this International Conference and Panorama 2015 (August 6 to 9) to "internationalize the steelpan industry" will come off without too many hitches and glitches and will be the showcase to make us all proud of T&T, the stated Steelpan Mecca.

    • I hoping and praying for an end to the court matter and an election.

My job here is to run interference, to create reasonable doubt.

  • The present administration of the World Governing Body is grandstanding, they do this well. if they really want to do something let them tackle the completion of the Headquarters and amend the constitution so that the big bands have more votes.
