Pan Trivia Questions To The Pan Disapora

At the 1989 Panorama, Ken "professor" Philmore/Fonclaire tied with Len "boogsie" Sharpe/Phase II. That was the first year that another Arranger/Steel Orchestra had played another arranger's composition and tied with his band.

(1) What was the year that this occurred for the second time and name the Arrangers/Steel Orchestras involved.

(2) An arranger's composition was beaten by another arranger. Give the years, Steel Orchestras, Arrangers, Name of tunes and placings.

(3) If you are thinking of "that" question, the answer is "NO."             No offer of a book for correct answers. (lol) Love Peace and Pan

  • First Steelband or steelpan Player to player at the Olympics is....................

    • Hello Hameed,

Rome Olympics 1960, Southern Symphony with the Bonaparte brothers.

  • Thanks to all who responded, the ones who did not know and to the ones who knew, but did not respond.

Here are the complete answers: The second time an Arranger/Steel Orchestra tied another arranger's composition was in 1998. Tropical Angel Harps with a Clarence Morris arrangement tied for 8th with Phase II/Boogsie's, "Clear the way."

Most of you answered the fact that Leon "Smooth" Edwards/All Stars 3rd place defeated Edwin Pouchet's/Silver Stars' 5th place, "Thunder Coming" at Panorama 2008, and again in 2011, 1st to Silver Stars' 3rd place with "Showtime."

    • Wait now. Exodus and All Stars didn't tie in 1993?

      • Yes Noah,

All Stars and Exodus did tie in 1993. However, that is irrelavant to my question.

The question is about any arranger's composition that was tied or beaten by another arranger.

        • Right, and isn't Dus a Pelham Goddard composition?

          • Hello Noah,

I appologied to all on when Steel talks. See comments. (lol)

            • Made my day to see you apologize, Ian. I was beginning to think you were infallible where pan is concerned :)

              • That's cold Glenroy (lol)
