MARTINSVILLE, VA --
It was an experience of a lifetime. Seven members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge traveled to Washington, D.C. Their steel drum group was picked as one of two in the entire country to play at the 64th National "Youth of the Year" dinner.

Several celebrities including NBA basketball star LeBron James, actor Denzel Washington, director Ron Howard, and Grammy winning musician Ashanti Douglas attended the event.

At one point, Ashanti Douglas came over to the group, and asked Patrick Henry Elementary 5th grader Khadim Mbacke to teach her how to play the drums. She later posed for photos with the group.
