Panists rush for J&J vaccines to beat 'Panorama' deadline

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Panists are in an 11th-hour rush to get vaccinated to meet a deadline to play at the Taste of Panorama main event – a designated "safe zone" – on February 26.

Pan Trinbago president Beverly Ramsey-Moore told Newsday on Tuesday, "Many of our players are not vaccinated. This event is causing a number of them to hustle to get the one-shot Johnson & Johnson (J&J) so they can be on stage on February 26."

Ramsey-Moore said steelbands will participate in two events in Trinidad including a retro-style event for single-pan and small steelbands coupled with traditional mas characters on February 19 at the Queens Park Savannah, Port of Spain. A big pan "shoot out" event on February 26 is also scheduled for the Savannah.

However some uncertainty hangs over a pan event planned for Tobago owing to high vaccine hesitancy on the island, including among pannists, she said.

"We are awaiting a response."

  • People, There is no rush by pan men for vaccination. Pan men don't get pay so there is no real incentive for them to change their vaccination status.

    This is the usual.

Hype up talk, to make nothing, something.

  • According to the article "PANNISTS are in an 11th-hour rush to get vaccinated to meet a deadline to play at the Taste of Panorama main event – a designated "safe zone" – on February 26."

According to NPR - National Public Radio in Washington D.C. - link: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/03/04/973436193/got-...

"Data from Johnson & Johnson show that most vaccinated trial participants had a robust immune response 15 days after getting the shot, with significant protection reached by day 29".

Using basic arithmetic, one can deduce that the players who are not yet vaccinated will not be able to reach a level of "significant protection" - to quote Johnson & Johnson - as there are only 24 days to go.

In addition, no mention was made as to whether there is a deadline for how many days BEFORE the event players must be vaccinated.

If there is no deadline then, in theory, could a player play on the same day as he/she got the vaccine?

That begs the question: Can Pan Trinbago President Beverly Ramsey-Moore say if the "designated safe zone" referred to in the article is really safe?
