We have a few months left before Panorama 2012 so I thought that we could revisit the ground- breaking decision that was made in the medium bands category.
Valley harps created history by being the first band to change the tempo in a panorama tune, the arranger took a chance and it paid off, she won and I congratulate them. However, this decision has set a precedent, now we will see bands changing tempo as much as they change keys. It was always my perception that a panorama tune has to be played in a tempo that reflects the spirit of carnival where we chip to the beat of the steelpan.
I think now is the time for PanTrinbago and the steelbands to clarify the rules concerning how a tune is played. Please do not mix-up Music Festival with Panorama.
On another subject, it will not be long before bands seek permission to use the PHI and E-PAN in Panorama, let us hear what Pan People have to say.
