Since its inception in 1963, the Panorama competition remains one of Carnival's signature events.

But research has shown that the event must be revisited if it is to retain and build on its core audience – mature, die-hard pan lovers.

"What we were able to see is that the people who come to Panorama old. They born since Jesus was a foetus," said Dr Suzanne Burke, lecturer in Cultural Studies, UWI, St Augustine.

Specifically, Burke said the patrons who sit in the Grand Stand of the Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain are usually 60 and over while those who sat in what was known previously as the North Stand (now North Park) are between 35 and 50.

Claude.....

I started reading this article in a hurry  then slowing down to absorb the end.  People need to read and take hints of the future of pan.  Interesting logic.

There are no young people in Pan Trinbago running anything. How can they expect to not fade away. They don't speak young people's language.

Pan Trinbago will soon be nothing more than a Pan triva.

Young people weren't around in the Golden Era of the steelband so they have little to bring to the table, now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that they be left out of the discussion but I strongly suggest they look at where we came from and where we are today.

"What we were able to see is that the people who come to Panorama [and talk and write about PAN every day] old. They born since Jesus was a foetus [and when dey dead, it eh have no PAN LOVERS to replace them]."

What allyuh don't seem to understand is that EVERY GENERATION has its RIGHT TO CHOOSE. We chose the PAN TING and it stay in we blood. These young people don't see THE PAN in the same way; that PASSION GONE.

Still, they need to establish a PROGRESSIVE EXECUTIVE in PAN TRINBAGO -- if they ever want to start having a serious discussion about this crisis. But with BEVERLEY RAMSEY-MOORE at the helm for the next NINE YEARS -- no amount of RESEARCH will stop PANORAMA FROM DEADIN!!!

Panorama is used as a scapegoat for everything about the Steelband, the bigger question should be about the steelband involvement in Carnival.

GONE!!! GONE!!! GONE!!! And ain't NEVER COMING BACK!!!

"The bent out of shape thing is that the people who are playing pan are younger and younger. So, them eh even coming to see they friends who play pan."

She added: "So, young people are playing pan but young people are not consuming pan. This is a challenge."

The NBA when faced with the challenge of low attendance/viewership at their NBA finals discovered most young people were using their hand held devices and desk-top computers to watch online gaming on the YouTube platform. They decided to partner with YouTube to attract a bigger audience. Now you got YouTube TV broadcasting the Finals, a win/win for their BRAND and YouTube.

HOW best can we MARKET THIS PRODUCT and CAPITALIZE on its EARNING POTENTIAL.

Marketers are always looking to SEE what's TRENDING to EXPLOIT it for BUSINESS VALUE. Follow/study the YOUTHS, they attract other youths to what they are doing. MUSIC is a good example.

ATTENDANCE has a different meaning in our modern day technology, it’s a NUMBER$$ game/VIEWS, build your following. Provide accessibility with a QUALITY PRODUCT for the GLOBAL audience/consumption.
