I remember a time when it was called "Beating Pan" and for a few years it became "Playing Pan". Now panorama has started it appears that we have reverted to beating the crap out of the instrument, it is much more than just a drum.
Please arrangers, is time to get back to playing melodies and harmonies, not transforming the pan into a note playing tassa drum, though there is nothing wrong with a tassa rhythm
Come back Bradley, come back Ken professor Philmore, come back Beverley Griffiths. Please,Please, Please.
I want to hear proper music. But I suppose I should also emplore the composers of this season's music to give us tunes with melody and harmony. If the songs are good enough, we will automatically JUMP WINE and WAVE.
Cross yuh fingers!

It's time to stop BEATING the instrument, let's learn to play it.
Abstract
OBJECTIVE
To determine the difference in hearing between a group of steelband musicians (pannists) and a control group.
DESIGN, SETTINGS, AND SUBJECTS
We conducted a controlled cross-sectional pilot study consisting of 29 steelpan players and 30 control subjects from a steelpan orchestra (steelband) in the Otolaryngology Department of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
RESULTS
Significantly more steelpan players had a hearing loss than the control subjects at 3000 Hz, 4000 Hz, and 6000 Hz (P < 0.01). χ2 testing for trend demonstrated that the longer a steelpan player played his instrument the greater the hearing loss.
CONCLUSION
These results indicate that pannists suffer permanent auditory damage from high-in-tensity sound levels and that preventative measures are required to prevent this hearing loss, particularly in younger players.
Agree, especially the smaller bands, bang bang bang, please, there is a technique, and if you do not know, watch the season bass players in Trinidad All Stars, especially Terry, it looks like he is playing royalty, the sticks are never elevated past his wrist line of the instruments. Your hands are supposed to glide, not up and down strokes.
Totally agree.
You want to hear proper music? Hold strain, Phase II pan groove will be releasing their tune soon.
