  • The panyard is one of the few places where young and old assemble and reach common ground. One of the few places where the youth could feel safe while engaging in positive activity. And now it is violated by “gunmen gone astray” and now parents will be afraid to send their youths to practice? This is appalling and I am at a loss for words. But you know, we in the caribbean are all in this together, because gunmen gone astray here in my homeland  as well.

I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Cyrus Vincent-Henry and the pan community.

I pray for a speedy recovery to the injured persons. I pray that you will find the strength to carry on and

keep the Uni-Stars together for if you don’t, that will be victory for the bad guys and they must not win.

Woe be onto the warmongers who try to instil fear in the hearts of good, peaceful people.

    Blessed Love to all

    • Greetings All,

As sad as it is, we need to keep level heads to deal with what T and T has become. The issue, I am sure has more to do with the socio-economic state of T and T than anything else. So agreeably, we have to start the clean-up from the top. Foreigners getting big money in our land does not help matters. We ourselves have to make the call, and initiate the changes. All Exploiters, O[ppressors, Corrupters, grabbers and Plunderers must be held accountable. No excuses; no escape; no exemptions. When we clean the top, the bottom becomes easier to clean.

it sickens my stomach to hear this. My heart feels for Unistars panmen & women.

and all the other pansides too. i always felt that no matter WHAT goes on out in the road, once inside the panyard, one is safe. And this is what i've been telling people i know who go to TnT, i tell them 'no worries just stay in the yard you'll be fine'  - but what can i tell them now? is anyplace safe?

as bad as i want to go and play a pan for carnival, i would not be traveling there alone again. Even though i've been all over the world my myself, with never any problem, at this point, i would not go back to TnT on my own.

i'm sad for beautiful TnT, that it has come to this,  drive-by shootings in the panyard.   SMDH.

        • Does anyone know what promted this cowardly, despicable act?  I was just wondering if this was a pan-related incident or just another random act of man's inhumanity to man.  Reason being, history has taught us that most of the saga that had their final chapters played out around steelbands, actually had nothing to do with steelband.  Then, steelband in general gets blamed and a bad name. This act is truely shocking especially when on thinks of the fact that over the years, as Cat said, the panyard has always been a safe haven.  It was like the community's embassy, once you are on the premises you did not have to worry, becuse you were secure.  I guess times have truely changed, but not for the better.  I would like to propose that on FRIDAY MORNING AT 10:00AM, in your respective time-zones, all pan people observe a minute of silence for the victim of this unspeakanble act,
  • Isn't it interesting that such a thing could happen at a time when the steelbands  have put conflict and violence behind them?

Far be it for me to yearn for a return to the bad old days, but be assured that no one would have dared to mess with a steelband like that back then, unless they were battling another steelband.

    There would have been WAR.

  • This is rather sad that people can be so heartless and not think of a life as anything.  These thugs, who ever they are should be charged to the full extent of the law.  Trinidad has become such a scary place, violence everywhere.  Innocent people are also the excess baggage when the gunmen open fire.  Please authorities, make it harder for these things to take place by trying to clean up the violence in Trinidad, starting from the inside to the outside (officials in authority who are in the pockets of the hudlums and gun men).  It is time that the Trinidad that I remember in growing up work at becoming a land of Paradise and sunshine again.  We should not continue to live in such fear of venturing out because of these kind of lawlessness going on all around, time for a shakeup.  In the meantime, pray for an awakening in the hearts of these murderers, they were born out of some woman womb but they don't value life.  How would they feel if their children, mother, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, etc. are gunned down or murdered.  I don't know this gentleman that got killed, but this is no way to end your life.  My prayers are with his family at this time, but don't forget to check your lives and make positive changes in the right direction.
