Excellent article! Portable video cameras like the Olympus, Sony or Zoom... shotgun microphones... even being pointed in the direction for video production tips... nice!!!
The video cameras all seemed to have stereo mics, which I would suggest that would be a minimum for using a video camera to also record ambient audio... you will get more natural room effects than with a mono recording.
