St. John’s, Antigua, W.I. - One of the nation’s foremost panists, Robin Margetson, who has been in the business for over 30 years, is welcoming the government’s intention to establish a National Youth Steel Orchestra.

“Anything we can do to help harness them at an early age will do wonders for us down the road,” he said. “It would actually help us to appreciate that pan is in good hands for our future generation.”


He was responding to the announcement made yesterday by Governor General Dame Louise Lake-Tack, as she delivered the Speech from the Throne to a special joint sitting of Parliament.


She said, “It is my government’s intention during this parliamentary year to establish the National Youth Steel Orchestra of Antigua & Barbuda with the express aim of attracting, encouraging and developing the musical talents of the young people of our nation through the medium of music and by extension the steel pan.”
