  • Lets do a little experiment about the judging in panorama, which bands do you think will score the most points for playing Good Morning, name the first 3?

    • In this Good Morning derby I am placing my money on Despers into XO in to Renegades.

Arrangers going against each other in a competition is one thing, but to see who does the same music better could be pushing the stress package, spectators are in for a treat.

  • if Pellam in the mix igoing with Pelam            he can eat them up

    • Bede BJ doing XO music.

  • this is a good way to judge this panorama lika Test piece, the best arranger wins

  • If the arrangers and the committee band members allow the pan players to choose out of a pool of different tunes then and only then you will not have this crap with several bands playing the same tune like "Good Morning ". Every panorama years is the same crap . It is the pan players, a good arranger, well tuned pans, discipline, a good tune of choice by all that makes a champion steelbands. There is so many great pan tunes that comes out every year but yet still just like with soca music and road march you have a bunch of bands playing the same song. We also have to take into consideration the paying patrons who don't want to hear the same tunes over and over. It is time for all you hard headed pan players to step up in the decision making of whatever aspects in your bands. Take example from a champion band like triple crown in the Medium band category Pan Elders. This year they playing "Roti" . I know Claude Gonzales will agree with me .
  • True, Claude! That is where rules come in. Rules pertinent to the promotion of creativity and thinking critically. Maybe they are there but nobody en taking them on! who is the Guidance counsellor?

  • I believe a band stand a much better chance if they go with a tune no one else is playing.

  • Over 2 bands is a bit much for me, I think it's a psychological box the arranger enters into, first, to have the best tune in the bunch then to win the competition.

Not to mention the judges, just listening to Good Morning in the night sounds funny, I'm sure a lot of comparison judging goes on, listening to 5 bands play the same tune could take it's toll.

Then there is that direct confrontation of the arrangers, this could be very stressful.

  • I personally think that they should limit the amount of bands playing the same music to at least 3. Let's just say for argument sake that in the finals you have the first 3 top finishers playing the same tune. As an arranger you don't know who else will pick the sound you are about play, that's why I said thereally should be a cap off for hiw many bands playing the same tune. My opinion!
