After calling the unfinished structure that was intended to be Pan Trinbago’s headquarters in Trincity an “eyesore which represents the worst of Trinidad and Tobago”, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said: “We have to return to the idea of finding a suitable headquarters for Pan Trinbago.”
Rowley was the featured speaker at Caribbean Airlines Invaders Steel Orchestra’s 75th anniversary gala awards and dinner on Tuesday night at the Banquet Hall and Conference Centre at MovieTowne, Port of Spain.
“The building is a relic, something we refuse to accept. Maybe it was to be something marvellous that did not get to the right stage, but it is now standing in a canefield,” said Rowley.
“Why not find a place in Port of Spain for the headquarters? Some things belong in the city. It draws on its location and the headquarters of the steelpan should be where people are. It is within our ability to find a location; we have to fix that. Maybe we can use the building in Trincity for something else. But we will help. Anything I can do from the office I now hold will be done,” he added.

...Talking about the Panorama competition, Rowley said: “We should unshackle ourselves from Panorama being the pinnacle of pan. The competition is limiting the instrument and the arrangers.
“Any time Invaders comes seventh in Panorama, I feel like we come first because the first six places seem to be reserved. The judging aspect limits the instrument... I am not saying do not have Panorama, but something else must happen.”...

Would the headquarters look like the original model...
Some local economists are saying that we are heading to the IMF soon. So I don't think that building a new headquarters for PAN TRINBAGO will be high on the priority list.
odw, if the building is going to be in the city they'll have to go back to the drawing board.
They say the Honorable Dr Keith Rowley @ 1:36 is a man of the people; some say he's the real wood-man of the year, anyone looking for a fight better prepare for “BOIS.”
odw: yuh really like calypso, boy. Ah was thinking of that cameo appearance for the last couple days (as I recommended Rowley -- to Cecil -- for MINISTER OF CULTURE) and you posted it. Very good. We need more INTERACTIVE posters.
Like you, I feel deeply rooted in our cultural traditions, in the early 70s the Mighty Popo was a headliner in the calypso tent in my home town, before the shows he would hang out with us “limers” and spit-out lyrics to get our feedback, all part of some very entertaining experiences. That started my love for this great art-form….
the more things change...
bad move by the P.M. though…he needs to be more careful in making certain pronouncements…but then again that's just my opinion...
There is ah ting call "sendin good money after bad money" I agree with the PM. What he could do is put back StarLift in Woodbrook [in the community] and make where Starlift was PT headquarters.
Starlift need a good arranger. Get 'haffers', ;ray holman' to bring back the band with the 'starlift sound'. The past few years the arrangers don't have the art for this band.
