New $700 attraction for weekend’s ‘Savannah Party’

"Contacted for comment yesterday, event co-ordinator of the Pan Splash Michelle George said:
“We have been getting a lot of interest and a lot of scepticism as well, but the whole idea behind it is for re-education of the young people and rethinking the art of entertainment, in regard to the national instrument. We believe that young people need to integrate and be taught how to appreciate the pan, and the point of going on The Greens was for the pan, so it’s not a concept that means to take away from the pan because we are making sure we do not interrupt the pan at all, and once a band is on-stage, the Jumbotron goes up and all other music in the area is ceased, so all the Pan Splash patrons will be able to see and hear the steelbands as they perform and compete.”
George further described the pool as “a much cooler gimmick to get you into the pan and trick you into enjoying it”. The capacity of the Pan Splash area is 1,100, inclusive of staff and security, and, therefore, approximately 1,000 paying patrons can be accommodated.
The $700 entrance fee includes the price of a ticket to The Greens, as well as lunch, finger foods, drinks and, of course, access to the pool."

I just heard on Talk city 91.1 FM, the host say that he will be live on the Greens tomorrow, bringing the action direct from the Greens, the poolside, etc - Live.  But I did not hear anything about the actual panorama semi finals being streamed even on radio live.

What is strange is that 91.1 FM is one of the Trinidad & Tobago Government frequencies, so here they are, promoting live coverage of action on the Greens, and talking about the Pool, but nothing about the actual Panorama and the bands themselves, and if we will be able to hear them.  And the Pan is the National Instrument? Anyone else heard any radio station talking about if they will be broadcasting it?  Hopefully that would mean we have chance of hearing it. I'd love if they actual carry a video stream!

The pool party is just another dagger to rid panorama of their day in the big yard. Similar to how they force pan on truck on carnival days. My prediction, panorama in the future will be held on Borough Day in Point yearly. Soca artist will have their day on the big stage with their pool, everybody crapping and peeing in the water with probably no clothes on, and they may have to see the physicians soon afterwards. Pan progress in TnT. A serious insult to pan. Minister Douglas, Diaz and others in management should be tossed out. The pan arrangers need to control this. Protest NOW. STOP everything.

Claude if the yankee take Boogsie and Holman seriously, they will take the panorama make it profitable, exciting, and you will be left with a dirty pool and nothing after.

really?  THREE threads about this thing?  BAH.

I suppose IF they are going to stop all other music and show the band on stage, I can give them a little bit of a bly. But personally i feel it's stupid to BE at a LIVE event, but be in a closed-off separate area watching the live performances on a jumbotron - why not see it LIVE on the stage if you right THERE?  The whole concept is just ridiculous.

If we have to use a "gimmick"  and "trick" people into enjoying it, leff them people alone.  If they don't like pan, nobody has to 'trick' them into liking it -  let them go jump and wave and enjoy their soca or whatever -  and keep the Panorama for live pan. FULL STOP.

This whole thing is the dumbest idea I have heard since I began storming the panorama with my father as a child. Just like the other jackass idea of charging people to go on the drag where some bands have won or loss

Catt: I hear yuh but the fact remains that the Greens generate BIG dollars. What is needed now is to change the day employ steelbands and show the world how you used the profits.
