R.I.P Brian Brumant

Brian Brumant  joined Renegades in 1981 at the tender age of 15; and in a very short space of time established himself as one of Renegades finest players, so much so that the legendary Dr Jit Samaroo was to identify him as his successor. True to his word, Jit even recommended Brian to Tornadoes in Point Fortin (for whom Jit also arranged for Panorama) when he felt he could no longer make the lengthy trip to Point Fortin to prepare the band. In his very first year arranging for Tornadoes Brian won the South Zone finals. Jit would also later recommend Brian to the Sukiyaki Steel Orchestra in Japan when they were looking for someone to train their players during their formative years. Brian spent 6-months of the year for three years in Japan working with Sukiyaki. Four years ago Brian was granted a scholarship by Renegades (with the assistance of the bands sponsor BP), to pursue a degree at The Florida Memorial University from where he graduated last year with a major in Music Education.. The plan was for Brian to head up the recently inaugurated, Renegades Music Institute. The entire Renegades fraternity and by extension BP, were saddened by Brian's passing on November 14th. He is gone but will never be forgotten by us; may his soul rest in peace. Our heartfelt condolences also go out to his biological family which includes the band's current Vice captain, Andrew 'Soca' Brumant.
