I think it would be in the best interest of ALL steelbands in the Mecca if they organize themselves, reach out to one another so that they can benefit from each other. For too long they have depended on others to speak for them and look at where they are now. The Steelband of today have to speak for themselves so it is of utmost importance that they speak with one voice. It is the duty of the more successful bands to assume the leadership here, time for steelbands to do something for themselves.

Good points Cecil, Let's hope that all Steel Orchestras take heed.
It is important to note the when steelbands organize they can get their sponsors involved in areas other than buying pan and uniforms. Big business will only support the steelband if they organize themselves.
Cecil, it is equally important to note. You can count on less than half a hand (lol) how many steelbands called the Band Of The Year 2014 and extended congratulations. Not kidding !! There is a band or two in the Mecca who have started to think "outside of the box" and are not depended on their sponsors. You know one the other is Birdsong. If you recall a lot of bands lost their identy to sponsorship. Case in point lots of folks inside the Mecca still think Catelli had a steelband a.k.a. as Catelli. Orchestras as they are known today need to let qualified proffessionals run management and allow musicians to play their music
Good post Daniel L you are so correct, let the pan people play the music and get professional management.
Steelbands have to get over that rivalry thing and organize not only with other steelbands but within their own organization.
Those that think "outside the box" should lead the way, it will be a humbling experience but a worthwhile one.
Steelbands have to learn to reach out to their supporters as a source of information, involve them in any way they can.
It is my opinion that some in the Mecca have given up on the steelband but I hope those that love the steel band get involve.
