An intermediate and advanced group performed and Director Christopher Lubken said they have been preparing tunes since August. Lubken also gave a brief history of the steel drum saying it was born in Trinidad in the 1940's. The band competed in the Utah State Steel Band Festival last May and won first place. The plan to participate again this year. "This is by far the largest steel band between here and Denver," Lubken said. He was originally a trumpet player, but after getting interested 15 years ago, he now considers himself predominately as a steel drum player.
