My Small Band buddy has been staunchly defending their existence at every turn. So let's get to the heart of the matter. Given all the bacchanal surrounding the Greens - should the small bands and single pan band share in the profits since their panorama was on Saturday and they had nothing to do with the Greens. They didn't bring anybody to the party, nor did they suffer any of the indignities of the Green's party.

  • Noah and Bugs to me it's simply a matter of fairness…one cannot compete against oneself as prevails especially in the Single Pan category…everyone knows of several players performing with multiple bands…we see these people running back and forth from band to band, changing t-shirt. The onus is on the said bands involved to put an end to it. Sorry brothers, but we at Merry Tones not supporting that...To be more extreme I would even go as far as to suggest that if you perform with a band that gets knocked out, you get knocked out of the competition as well. We have for years made and continue to make a mockery of "COMPETITION". Panorama "used" to be a competition…back in the day…not any more….I don't know if any of you were paying attention to the Single Pan Prelims (in the East, I believe) coverage this year…I happened to hear the commentator observe a young lady who waved flag for two different bands and even played guitar pan for a third…You see how far it reach now?…Mercenary Flag Women?….As the Grandmaster sang…"You have no band if you don;t have a Flag Woman"….we can't be serious….

    • Merrytones I love your idea that if your band is knocked out of the completion you are also out.

Yes, Pan Trinbago has allowed the competition to become a mockery.  I do not believe they have the will or know how to fix the problem.  Several announcers spoke of the irregularities they were witnessing live on air.  Again, I say this is a government funded competition. They will have step in and regulate the situation.

I wonder what would happen if one band sued the government for running an unfair competition based on the movement of the players.

      • Thanks Bugs…we does be on the same page sometimes…lol…I hear you with Government involvement to regulate the competition, but then again Kamla holding on to the reins of power for her dear life, so Panorama will never be important…

        • Kamla! There's your answer to everything. When in doubt, say "Kamla".

          • Ok Patrick…so you know otherwise it seems…

  • Bugs, are you SURE that Pan Trinbago will declare a profit?? The operating word is declare! And if they do declare, ALL Steelbands in Trinidad and Tobago deserve a share in the profits. How yuh work it out is another story. My opinion.

    • Well Bertel that would be biggest gangsta move of the year.  It's broad daylight and everyone is watching.

      • Well lets all see with eyes open. I cant recall any declared in 14 nor 13, can you? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

        • Mr. Gittens are you saying that the steelband management don't know how much was made or lost on the Greens over the year gone by? SMH

          • The word is Transparency or lack thereof.
