The emergence of the Socadrome could be a blessing in disguise for pan on the road. If all the big bands and trucks head to Socadrome the Savannah could be left alone completely for pan and mas and zero dj's

Carnival (cannibal), we eat WE own. Take the STEAL outa (steel) band assoc.. Take the LIE(ly) outa Calypso. Let the Japanese, the Chinese and the Swiss run WE ting...and dais it.
Every year is the same tired ole song.
Patrick, dat is dotish talk!
Although it is true that the Swiss or Austrians or French would probably run our own show with greater technological and organisational proficiency, the idea is to learn to do just that ourselves, not just throw up up your arms in the air and say you fed up!

Great idea, Bugs!!
Actuall, the most realistic solution to the pan-on-the-road problem would be to redirect the big trucks and DJs elsewhere, on their own separate routes throughout the town(s). That way, the DJs couldn't complain they (and their commerce) were being eliminated from carnival. Reclaim the roads for pan!
Don't get me wrong, Jennifer Ire ... this would not involve "surrendering" any part of us, deep or otherwise. It's just a necessary thing for pan to reclaim the roads.
Peter
This is an opportunity for pan people to take advantage of.

We have to do something for the steelband NOW. [Brain Storm]
I read on yesterday's guardian that downtown Frederick Street and the other roads that were the usual route for bands were empty of any bands. People and vendors saw nothing and no-one, they felt left out of our carnival. . Maybe it is time for all players and representatives of the population to sit down right now and talk seriously about how to do this Carnival. I read some talk about an elite vibe some folks are feeling from that;, and how masqueraders are transported by bus to sites near the stages to get to the competition easier. It could be a great time to really re-visit the past, remember the history, look at what is being lost and what could be being given away by forgetting the history of ourpageant called Carnival. From a mockery of the colonial elitism and pageantry we are becoming that. That is not a problem but it could be a surrendering of a deep part of ourselves without our meaning to, if we are not careful. Time to envision a future for carnival instead of proceeding willy nilly only to find it become blasé.
and the show goes on
every year
we tired of the same thing
over and over
remember the song
Although bands went to the socadrome, they still came on the road to different venues(mainly Ariapita Ave.) and there was still mass or "mas" confusion.A steelband started at the top of Ariapita Ave at 1.30 pm and got downtown after 6 pm.
I think it's time to restructure the route for pan. To be on the road as early as 7:30 am and you now crossing the savannah at 2:00 pm, something is fundamentally wrong with this.
Some of the bands are too large, followed by many music trucks. There should be a limit to the amount of members in a large band.
