Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) The performance of the Steel Band of Trinidad and Tobago in this western city as part of his visit to Cuba, which continues today in the province of Matanzas, was described as spectacular.
Formed by 23 young people from the Sucess Laventille Secondary School, the band captivated the audience last night who attracted by the sound of metal drums filled areas of the Roberto Amarán park.
Shubert's Ave Maria, the Phantom of the Opera, of Andrew Lloyd and Besame Mucho, of Mexican Consuelito Velasquez, formed part of the program, enriched with Guantanamera, by Cuban Joseíto Fernandez.
Previously, musicians were welcomed by the provincial concerts band that under the baton of maestro Emilio Rey offered visitors Cuban and international songs.
Hamida Baksh, director of Sucess Laventille Secondary School, described as extraordinary the presence of the group in Cuba as part of cultural exchange between the two nations.
Cuba has a rich musical and percussion work and this meeting enriches and nourishes us, she added.
The Steel Band of Trinidad and Tobago will conclude its visit to Cuba on Sunday, after also visiting places of interest such as the Viñales National Park, a World Heritage Site.
