St. Lucia Junior Panorama 2012

St. Lucia, W.I.- With its history spanning much farther back than that of independence, pan music in St. Lucia has long struggled to remain firmly on the cultural calendar.

After a five year stump, Junior Panorama has returned. Throughout the months of September 2011 to January 2012, though under the radar, many youth with the majority between the ages of six and twelve have been participants of an ongoing steel pan training programme. Initiated by the Cultural Development Foundation, and facilitated and sponsored by UNESCO, the programme’s efforts are aimed at developing the art form and recognizing its needs and significance in the community, to youth, and to musicians.

The five month “Youth Steel Pan Training Programme” with its requirements being specifically “No Experience Necessary,” has engaged interested minors, and aspiring, capable and unseasoned arrangers, in practicing musical scales and chord progressions, observing musical timing, and inevitably, producing a warm up and test piece for Junior Panorama 2012.
