California, USA - ....With their hands moving fast, the advanced level steel drum artists were busy this week preparing for their biggest performance of the year. Next Wednesday, March 26, Cabrillo is hosting its annual Steel Drum Festival and for the first time will be playing with musicians from Stephens Middle School and California State University, Long Beach’s Steel Drum Orchestra.
Cabrillo and Stephens are the only schools in the district that offer students an opportunity to play steel drum, or steelpan.
....Cabrillo High School will host the Steel Drum Festival at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at the school’s 560-seat auditorium. Joining the Cabrillo students for the first time will be musicians from Stephens Middle School and the circa-1987 California State University, Long Beach, Steel Drum Orchestra.

It is time for the teacher in charge to get with the history of the steelpan and teach that as well.
