Trinidad Express -

Chaotic. Toxic. Hostile.

That’s how former Pan Trinbago vice-president Carlan Harewood described the current work environment within the Beverly Ramsey-Moore-led pan body executive.

Harewood shocked the pan fraternity when he resigned with immediate effect from the pan board on Tuesday. The Pan Trinbago second in command reportedly had been demoted by Ramsey-Moore to the position of assistant secretary earlier this year.

“The ongoing chaos resulting from your high-handed, Trump style of leadership created a toxic and hostile work environment,” Harewood wrote to Moore in his resignation letter, which he made available to the Express, likening the pan head’s approach to that of former American president Donald Trump.

  • My concern is not about "pan". Pan is just another instrument - on par with all other instruments - and, as such, not in "danger" of anything. In fact, the instrument is being played by more people, in more countries, than ever before. My concern (as a panman) is about the "panman/woman". Who is seeking our interest? Who is representing us in legal matters? Who is lobbying for us with respect to legislation and regulations thet would benefit us? Would it be better if Pan Trinbago was scrapped and replaced by a T&T Union of Artistes (professional singers/musicians/ artists/storytellers etc) that would represent us? The saxophone, the violin and the piano seem to be doing well without a "World Governing Body" for these instruments. Why is it necessary to have a "World Governing Body for the Steelpan"? Just asking for a friend in Copenhagen.
