My name is Fundile Phaqa, 28 years old from King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape – South Africa. I live in a quiet rural area with the majority of the youth on drugs, alcohol, promiscuity and general lack of access to education and recreation. I am one of the few lucky one who graduated from university. Last year I suffered a major depression due to my brother’s sudden death. I was hospitalised for three weeks. My psychologist suggested I look for a creative outlet to pass my free time. And steel pans are very appealing to me.
I am interested in starting a band with the local schools. I wish to request any kind of assistance to benefit both me and the rest of my poverty stricken community. This would be a wonderful opportunity to nurture the generations and motivate them into thinking outside their immediate environment. Music is one such way. This would also be a wonderful opportunity for you to help change lives.
I don’t seek monetary donations. I am requesting a donation of a steel pan, music sheets and any other resource to help me successfully start a band for both young and old.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Warmest regards,
Fundile Phaqa
