Steelpan App mess-up our National Anthem

As a pan fan I was embarrass and ashamed last night to see we are on the world stage and these jokers with their steelpan app made so much mistake trying to play our national anthem on their steelpan app to open the 50th anniversary of panorama WHAT A SHAME these app cannot replace a conventional steelpan.

  • The kids in Junior Panorama played the anthem without any mistakes but the the adults!

    • I heard the children at the Junior Panorama and wondered why this national insult.  I have no problem with the app, PHI or E Instrument as initiatives, but the Junior Panorama is supposed to be a celebration and showcasing of the Pan (not Apps) In the Schools Program.  However, this is quite consistent with the concept of the Greens, that other gross disrespect visited upon the pan movement at the National Semi-finals by Pan Trinbago who choose to have a totally unrelated event in its main event - all under the guise of monetizing the semi-finals. Much like a hip-hop party at a Beethoven Recital! We have heard that common sense is not so common, but has it become so rare among our pan leadership?

      • Mr. Jones, why yuh hittin d people hard so!? LOL

  • Wayne Cezair, after your comment, no one should say anymore about this. You have hit the spot about the dotishness of promoting an apps before the actual instrument. No one is going to take away the fact that pan belongs to the steel drum and nothing else ,no E thing or PHI thing or apps thing. You can have those things, but the efforts are on going by the producers to have people refer to them as pan and we must guard against the usurping efforts of the producers.

  • So far the gov't has messed up carnival 2013. They could do a 'makeover' in September.

  • Using the apps to me represents the absentmindedness of the officials who say they are promoting pan around the world and then showcase to the world this apps or can I say vaps. With hundreds of pannist in the savannah that night and many more who did not play in the finals, one of them could have played our national anthem on the national instrument and not use that "thing." I'm wondering.....was a fee paid for this to be done?

    • I wonder myself what commission or royalties Pan Trinbago is getting for marketing the pan app.

Unless someone is somehow getting paid for showcasing a commercial product on a stage like this then this was the lowest blow that pan has been subjected to.

Imagine in the home of the pan where pannists are scrunting all over the country they replace an actual pan and a pannist on the biggest stage for pan.

      What a waste.

  • I don't know about no "world stage" since most of the people viewing around the world are Trinidadians and a few friends or the ODD PERSON who may have fallen in love with pan music.

    • Broaden yuh perspective, Claude. Anybody hear from Cecil H.?

  • Are you saying that you would like to see an app replace a conventional steelpan. Your last line surely makes it sound that way.

"WHAT A SHAME these app cannot replace a conventional steelpan."

Anyway I didn't hear what "these jokers" as you called them did. However, if I'm understanding what you are writing correctly, they made many mistakes. In that case I hope you are not blaming the steelpan app that they used, for human error because I have certainly seen (shamefully so) players make mistakes playing the national anthem on conventional steelpans. So if you are blaming the steelpan app for those "jokers" errors ,then when player embarrass the country by making mistakes in the national anthem on a conventional steelpan you will blame the conventional steelpan.
