Position Title: Rhythm Project Associate Director
The Rhythm Project is an after-school world percussion program that uses Caribbean Steelpans to nurture self-esteem through individual and cooperative achievement. Over 120 students in four cities are currently served by the Rhythm Project. There are three elementary and middle school Rhythm Project programs that feed the program’s premiere performing ensemble, the All Stars. The All Stars is a year-round program, for high school students, that focuses on instilling discipline and dedication in students through performance and touring opportunities. Two high school and two combined high/middle school groups, in addition to the All Stars, serving the cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach and York County complete the family of eight Rhythm Project ensembles. www.rhythmproject.org

Qualifications: Strong background in teaching Steelpan required. Background in teaching African hand drumming an asset. Performing Arts Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree considered. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and mentoring young students (grades 4 through 12). (S)he will possess working knowledge of Steel pan performance and ensemble direction.
