  • Congrats to all those deserving members/supporters of the steelband movement.
  • Well well, I confirmed with Pan Trinbago. For some reason Pan Trinbago does not recognize the percussionists in our Steel Orchestras in Trinidad and Tobago. There will be awards for the catagory of
    "Longest Players At Panorama".
    (1) Mr. Percival Pitt is a bass pannist of Starlift and has played at all 48 Panorama Preliminaries, and will be awarded. However, Mr. Rupert Phillip is a percussionist of Desperadoes, and he has also performed at all 48 Panorama Prelims. Further more, Rupert Phillip is the ONLY PLAYER that has performed at 44 out of the 47 Panorama Finals. As you all know Desperadoes Steel Orchestra has performed at the Panorama Finals the most. Simply because he is not a pannist, Pan Trinbago did not see his accoplishments as merit for an award.
    (2) Mr. Ellias "P'Jue Phillip of Desperadoes will be awarded for "Longest Players At Panorama." However, Pan Trinbago left out Mr. Dennis "Tash" Ash. Both "Tash" and "P'Jue have played at 41 out of the 47 Panorama finals.
If Pan Trinbago do not think that the percussionists are not important at Panorama, I suggest rhythm should be removed as a judging criteria at Panorama.
    Love, Peace and Pan,
    Ian
  • Please please Pan Trinbago start giving some recognition to the hard working pannists and pioneers overseas we are totally ignored except when we are in Trinidad making noise for a pass to go to Panorama, we do work hard all over the world to promote and maintain the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.

  • Just asking! Has Ken Charles ever been given an Award? I know he has done so much for the Pan movement in Sponsoring Harmonites, Solo Pan Knights and now Harmonites again. He is truely a friend of the Pan Fraternity. He raised the standard of Bands in the sixties to present time. He spent Millions$$$ in Sponsorship for the betterment of our National Instrument. Congratulations to the Awardees!
    • Good point Patrick. Yes both Harmonites and Desperadoes have been sponsored the longest, they have (88) years.
Let's give Pan Trinbago a chance, 2011 is another year.
  • How long Franklyn have been playing?
    • Hello Curtis,
I just realized that you meant Franklyn from Phase II. I do not have any data about his longevity in pan.
Pan lovers of Phase II, please respond.
    • Hello Curtis,
If you are talking about Joseph "Franklyn" Gerald, he played with Desperadoes from 1964 through 1974.
  • I am not jumping the gun, because I do not have all the facts. (and yes, maybe I should have called Pan Trinbago before commenting) If Mr. Ellias "P'Jue" Phillip, Mr. Dennis "Tash" Ash and
Mr. Ruppert Phillip are not this years awardees, but were previously honoured by Pan Trinbago, I say kudos to you Pan Trinbago.
