I know that history is not to be ignored. But can someone explain to me the reasoning for bringing this part of the history of Panorama at this point. This incident allegedly took place more than thirty five years ago according to the date indicated on the article.I am asking myself. What is the motive behind this posting.

This is very relevant. Have you not heard about what happened to Mr. Gittens in Trinidad?

If history is not to be ignored, why ignore history?

It may just have something to do with this, just sayin'... http://whensteeltalks.ning.com/forum/topics/bullied-and-assaulted-f...

No, it doesn't.

I am certainly sorry to hear about the incident that took place between Mr.Gittens and the Pan Trinbago officials and I do not condone that type of behavior. But I cannot see the relevance in what Happened to Mr. Gittens in that incident, and a GUN being pulled on three Pan Judges thirty five years ago.I am still asking, What was the reasoning behind this posting? Maybe Ddr, Jeannine Remy can tell us.

Web this fella took it to an extreme 35 years ago, but there is a lesson in this. To what extreme will Pan Trinbago officers go to the next time they dislike something Bertel, you or me say about them. Who is next? What's to say they would not bully a panorama judge like Dr. Remy? Criminal minded is just that, criminal minded!

This is Dr. Remy here. The post was on my facebook page as part of steelpan history to show why judges are escorted out before the results are given.  I just found it interesting as a researcher not to offend anyone or Pan Trinbago.  Over the last year we at the University of the West Indies (UWI) have created an online web source for researchers.  See this for more information on the project:  http://www.guardian.co.tt/carnival/2014-01-27/tt-steelpan-newspaper...

Here is how you get to steelpan articles directly.  The articles can be accessed by going to the collection itself at the UWI Web site http://uwispace.sta.uwi.edu/dspace/handle/2139/17577

Students in the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) have been writing annotated bibliographic entry forms on the newspaper clipping folders on the topic of steelpan located in the West Indiana Special Collection in UWI’s Alma Jordan Library for the past 5 years as part of their DCFA coursework in both steelpan history development and steelpan literature.  As part of my ongoing research on steelpan history, I realized the value of teaching the students about the state of the sources available on the topic of the steelpan as our national instrument.  Some of our projects included reading through numerous steelpan clippings folders, learning about microfilm, and conducting and documenting oral interviews with panmen.  The class also has assignments in the national archives where they are allowed to photograph articles out of the newspaper where they learn to appreciate their cursory nature.

Thank you Dr. Remy for posting.

History lets us know where we came from and why things are the way they are. History also gives us lesson so we won't make the same fatal mistakes in the future.

Only if we learn from history not to repeat the mistakes of the past can we move forward.

Which band won that year? It may say why, disappointingly, the "gun" was pulled.

Starlift - Natasha.
