Seventeen-year-old secondary school students, Joshua Bedeau and Jaron Woodsley, leave this weekend on an intensive two week music scholarship programme at Birch Creek Music Performance Centre, Wisconsin, United States.
The teenagers who are members of the south-based Golden Hands Steel Orchestra were among 14 young musicians who earlier this year auditioned for the scholarships offered by the Music Literacy Trust of Trinidad and Tobago (MLTTT), the steelband’s spokesperson Naomi Adonis-Woodsley told Newsday yesterday.
At the auditions, Bedeau and Woodsley emerged first and second respectively.
Bedeau of Union Hall, San Fernando is a student of the Debe High School, Debe and has just completed his Carribean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination - Woodsley of Plaisance Park Pointe-a-Pierre is currently writing his Level One Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) at St Benedict’s College, La Romaine where he is a Lower Six student.
