For the last decade I was on THIS FORUM complaining bitterly about the LACK OF CALYPSO in the PANORAMA ARRANGEMENTS. And things got even worse in the last 5 years as the trend towards what I called "putting all kinda junk in the arrangement" became more and more popular with successful results for the arrangers.
Anyway, to make a long story short -- a MUSIC GRADUATE from UWI went down my road to prove my point for me (well, not really for ME because she eh know me and I eh know she). The young lady went and took a close look at the 2020 PANORAMA ARRANGEMENT of the GREATEST CURRENT PANORAMA ARRANGER IN THE WORLD TODAY.
She sit down and analyze THE ARRANGEMENT and reveal that for FIVE MINUTES STRAIGHT in an EIGHT MINUTE ARRANGEMENT -- THE ARRANGER never TOUCHED the CALYPSO that he was supposed to be playing. Now, when you add time for the INTRODUCTION and time for the BREAKDOWN and time for the CLASSICAL ENDING -- how much of the ORIGINAL CALYPSO did you really play in THE ARRANGEMENT.
Is like a FOREIGN WOLF just coming and EATING UP all the CALYPSO in the ARRANGEMENTS and the HARDCORE STEELBAND MUSIC LOVERS supposed to sit down and enjoy that on a JAM DOWN CARNIVAL SATURDAY NIGHT.
Well, at least they eh fool me and my NEW BEST FRIEND.
And what really give me ah second concussion this year is that when you really put them on a stage to play the FOREIGN MUSIC for INTERNATIONAL JUDGES ... well ah better stop here.
