Trinidad and Tobago is best known for its Calypso, Steelpan, and Soca music, including internationally noted performances in the 1950s from native artists such as Lord Kitchener, Lord Melody and the Mighty Sparrow. It has been distinctive in its contribution to Caribbean music, and is a veritable laboratory of musical sounds.

Calypso spans a broad spectrum from social and political commentary, usually at a slow tempo, to humorous, nationalistic, and up-tempo party tunes (Soca).

Parang is very popular, as there are more than thirty active Parang groups in Trinidad and Tobago. The musical hybrid is about more than just Christmas carols, though. It is about general merrymaking and festivities around Christmas time.

Soca has been fused with Parang, creating Soca-Parang. In addition, in recent times Indian drumming and Chutney melodies mixed with Parang has evolved into a whole new revolution of Parang.

It is in that vein that Kaiso-Parang is introduced – a fusion of traditional calypso with Parang rhythms.

Fusion music has been around for ages, and the sizzling music of Trinidad and Tobago is world renowned for its diversity that stems from the unique cultural heritage of its people.

And so - the birth of the latest genre is – Kaiso Parang.

The Friends of the Blood Bank Association (FBBA) in Trinidad and Tobago, together with The National Trade Union Centre of Trinidad & Tobago (NATUC) present:

The Heart and Soul of Kaiso Parang

The FBBA sees this exercise (the CD - The Heart & Soul of Kaiso Parang) as a two-fold venture. Firstly, it will raise much-needed funds to run the day-to-day operations of the Association; and secondly what it thinks is a unique idea of showing how Trinidad & Tobago’s much-loved calypso music of yesteryear can be redone in an unexplored but popular format.

Calypsos - such as Workey Workey, Woman is Boss, Bed Bug, Salt Fish, Boo Boo Man, Sugar Bum Bum, Lorraine, and Brown Skin Gal, just to name a few, with a Kaiso Parang beat.

Music is arranged by Leston Paul and featuring Baron, Crazy, Kenny J, Alicia Jaggasar and Eddie Charles.

”The Heart and Soul of Kaiso/Parang” will make your Christmas Season enjoyable, and also ensure that the music of these great artistes play on and live on. This CD will no doubt spill over into the Carnival season.

”The Heart and Soul of Kaiso/Parang” CD is available locally, nationwide in Trinidad & Tobago.
