MY CONNECTIONS IN THE DIASPORA - PART TWO OF ANY OF MANY
Calypsociation - steelpan music is a French Steelband with which I’ve been associated since 2002, having recorded their famous original composition Lévé at Starlift Panyard, Roxy Roundabout Woodbrook their rehearsal space in preparation for the World Steelband Festival 2000.
Today’s story has absolutely nothing to do with being aroused from a deep slumber, but the fact that the enigmatic Clive Bradley may now be rocking his rhythms with aplomb from behind the Pearly Gates.
Calypsociation executes a verbatim arrangement of the ever-popular ‘Ah Goin’ an’ Party Tonight’ for your listening pleasure, the feature track on their 2009 CD ‘Made It’.
To fully understand the genius of Clive Bradley as a storyteller and Steelband arranger one must listen to Lord Nelson's rendition of Ah Goin' an' Party Tonight. Not many people know that Bradley also composed the refrain.
This is so good, I can't even tell you. I played this piece for a member of Desperadoes who played for the band when Clive Bradley arranged for the band. He says it sounds better than Desperadoes, and I agree with him totally. Do some more Steelband classics and make this your specialty,
