Personally, for a man who insists on GOOD VOCALS and LYRICS ... I could barely stand to listen to more than ONE of the performances tonight. But I see the BRANDING and MARKETING and over time they will get to THE GLOBAL MARKETS and leave PAN and SOCA and CALYPSO in the dust.
They have a GOBAL AUDIENCE that they could appeal to once they develop VOCALSKILLS and MAINSTREAM LYRICS.
What really fascinates me is THE ADMINISTRATIVE TALENT SPEARHEADING the GLOBAL OUTREACH and the DIASPORIC AUDIENCE that they have captured. I still have problems with the RHYTHMIC MIX and its potential for GLOBAL APPEAL. That is a little bit confusing to me and frankly I think that I could help them in that arena. But you know that TRINIS sit down in TRINIDAD and think that they rule the OUTSIDE WORLD. Although they cannot show any REWARDS for all their assumed GENIUS.
And then THE PANORAMA and THE SOCA CHUTNEY are scheduled on THE SAME NIGHT ... how silly.
The thing is that OVER ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS is spent on PAN every year ... and PAN still remains A BEGGAR ... so where does the MONEY GO? And when ROWLEY came into office he cut the SOCA CHUTNEY BUDGET by 90% ... and they are STILL FLYING HIGHER INTERNATIONALLY TODAY while PAN AND CALYPSO are stuck in the GIMME ME MO GIMME ME MO MODE.
The rhythmic blend in the SOCA and CHUTNEY music fascinates me even though its fruition is still being sought out. The GARBAGE LYRICS and THE HORRIBLE VOCALISTS depress me ... yet I KNOW that THE GENRE will break internationally ... it is just a MATTER OF TIME and UNDERSTANDING.
PAN (and CALYPSO), on the other hand, will ALWAYS have its hand STRETCHED OUT TO THE PNM ... begging GIMME GIMME GIMME despite the HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS that is PUMPED into THE VOTING BASE on an ANNUAL BASIS!!!
