Providing credit to islands of the Caribbean for their contributions to culture despite forced slavery is a sliver of reparations that the Caribbean is owed from the world.
A prominent instrument with a tastefully distinctive sound in much of contemporary music is the steelpan.
Though the majority of people enjoy the sound without pinpointing or recognizing the exact instrument linked to it, the steelpan sound is not only beautiful and outstandingly critical in music, but has a long and heavy history.

I am getting a bit tired of hearing Trinidad needs recognition for the Pan as an instrument.
We have long passed that time and the government of the day never acknowledged the pan or a standardized factory or even a patent on the pan.
The best and only thing now is for it to be written into history books so that the upcoming young ones could research it.
If I asked you who or where the inventors or what country the Violin; Guitar; Chellos; the Pipe Organ; the Saxophone or Trumpet came from you would have to look it up in a book or online.
Just concentrate on making the instrument the best that we can make it and keep playing the sweet music.
What I don't like is all these JOHNNY COME LATELIES PIMPING THE PAN with these SUPERFICIAL ARTICLES.
And the TRINIDAD PAN PEOPLE are so DUMB and GLOBALLY BACKWARD to SWALLOW what OTHERS tell us about THE PAN because it is in GLOBAL MEDIA.
Meanwhile all the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS that THE PNM GOVERNMENT put into PAN has been STOLEN and CORRUPTED ... while THE PRESIDENT OF PAN TRNIBAGO and her EXCUTIVES steal HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF TAX PAYER DOLLARS and so called PAN LOVERS stay SILENT ... HOW BACKWARD can we really be?
TIME FOR A REVOLUTION!!!
WOW agree.Thought that I was the only one with those views.Pan Trinbago President took Exodus title away from them for several years now.
