  • Thanks, ODW. That is the HIGH RENT DISTRICT!!!

Etienne Charles HAS GONE TO THE SKY!!!

  • Andy Narell heard the "melancholic chime" (I still cannot believe that a LATINA in Florida could hear it) upon visiting TRINIDAD and he was able to capture it to the MAX in WE KINDA MUSIC even though he did  transcend from the alienation and forlorn to jubilation -- however briefly. At the time I marveled and still live in awe at the composition. But that was 30 years ago.

Today, I want JOY coming from a CROSSOVER PAN COMPOSITION -- that is not to say that you cannot revert to the root for a minute or two. But entertain me with the music -- I don't want to THINK ... I just want to be ENTERTAINED.

And that is why I was so thrilled by the emergence of WILSON JEAN-BAPTISTE -- he has mastered the art of ENTERTAINING  an audience WITH THE PAN.

The only thing missing from his performance was that ONE ORIGINAL COMPOSITION -- a joyous piece of modern sounding CALYPSO inflected with JAZZ and R&B delivered in a style on THE PAN that only he (WILSON) can do ... and he is ready for the WORLD TOUR!!!

I don't know why two men like KENDALL WILLIAMS and KHUENT ROSE cannot come together and COMPOSE THAT PIECE OF MUSIC. Especially KHUENT ROSE who is always diminishing THE STEELBANDS as just COVER BANDS (and rightly so). But he could step up and be THE SAVIOUR!!!

  • Claude, check out Etienne Charles latest CD Carnival should meet some of your expectations...
